Paula W. Alexander, 62, of Stuart, FL died Aug. 24, 2013 at Martin Medical Center in Stuart.

She was born in Washington D.C. and moved to Stuart five years ago from England. She had previously lived in Arizona.

She graduated from Stanford University with a Ph.D in educational psychology. She worked at West Ed, doing educational research. She specialized in teachers' training guidelines, and even helped write standardized testing questions and manuals. She taught special education and Spanish.

She was involved with UFW- United Farm Workers, where she worked for Cesar Chavez. She volunteered for AmeriCorps. She most recently worked in the children's department of the Palm Beach County Library.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Alexander.

Survivors include her mother, Argentina Alexander; daughter, Catalina Alexander and her companion Jason David of Stuart; brothers, Chico Alexander (Fran) of North Carolina, Steven Alexander of Palm Beach Gardens, FL and Jonathan Alexander (Christy) of Amelia Island, FL; sisters, Kathy Snyder (John) of Jensen Beach, FL, and Elizabeth, Patricia and Laura Alexander, all of West Palm Beach , FL; and many nieces and nephews.

A gathering of friends and family will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday , Sept. 7, at Martin Funeral Home & Crematory in Stuart.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m.
