Cordon Robert Avery, 71, a retired Western Electric Company, Incorporated, development engineer, died yesterday, February 26, 1968 in his Slatington home.
Chairman of the Washington Township Planning Commission, Avery also had taught at the Penn State facility in Allentown and Slatington High School, and had been a member of the Slatington Library board and the Slatington Swimming Pool Association.
He was born in Vassar, Michigan, a son of the late Cordon and Lavancha (nee Walker) Avery, he was an elder of the First Presbyterian Church, Slatington.
Avery retired in 1956 after 46 years with Western Electric. A graduated of the University of Michigan, he was a lieutenant in the 316th Infantry in France during World War I.
Surviving are his widow, Hilda M. (nee Weurfel) Avery; three sons, C. Robert of Istanbul, Turkey, Dr. James Avery of Arizona State University, Tempe, Arizona and Bennett of Peoria, Illinois, and two daughters, Margaret, wife of Dr. Horace William Dewey of Ann Arbor, Michigan, and Miriam, wife of the Reverend Donald Voelm of Galion, Ohio.
Also a brother, Dr. Bennett Avery of Bethesda, Maryland; four sisters, Joanne Avery of Florida, Mrs. Ruth Kerns of California, Dorothy, wife of Robert Moore of Alabama, and Augusta, wife of Dr. Woodard Neithammer of Tacoma, Washington; 20 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
