Well...not too much is known about Uncle Nick's life, just bits and pieces. He had a very rough childhood and wouldnt talk too much about it. He was born in Denver in 1952 to a very large family. From what we know, Nick's beloved mother died while most of the children were still fairly young. After she died, their father couldnt take care of all the kids, so foster care stepped in and split up all the kids. They would never find one another again. Uncle Nick ran away from his foster family as soon as he was able and started boxing. He was the youngest California golden gloves in 1970! But success did not last and nick found himself on hard times and unfortunately doing time at San Quentin, but nick got on his feet and married after prison. He found steady work and had many children of his own. Soon though, nick fell back into some old habits, and started to hit the bottle. It was during this time that he passed out on some railroad tracks, and had his left leg badly damaged and it was amputated. Nick passed away almost a year ago now, and let me tell you, he really was a wise man with alot of love in his heart. Ok, he wasnt perfect and his life wasnt pretty, but Uncle Nick was the funniest person I knew!! His stories were legendary to all of us here in Walsenburg!! He would give you the shirt off his back. He would cook you a meal if you were hungry, give you advice from someone who had been knocked around in life, and he did it all with love.
