Mrs. Almira (Aunt Punk) Phillips, 72 years old, died January 31, at the home of her son, Thonie Phillps, of Lewisburg, Logan County. The cause of her death was la grippe, of which she only suffered a few days. "Aunt Punk" certainly will not only be missed by relatives but her death will be received as a shock from a great host of friends which she had acquired because of her mother-like disposition. She was born in 1850; professed religion and united with the Methodist Church at Pleasant Hill, this county, when only 15 years of age. At 19 she was married to T. J. Phillips; to this union was born 10 children, six sons and four daughters. Her husband and four children died several years ago. For more than forty years "Aunt Punk" has been afflicted with spinal trouble and as her life at all times seemed to pinion only on "The better thread" it was a mystery to those knowing her physical condition that she hung onto life as long as she did. The main part of her life was spent in the communities of Sharon Grove and Mt. Sharon, this county. No one has record of a harmful expression or hardly an insinuation of ought but good against her neighbor, but instead, a disposition to help, and a smile for every one was her golden characteristic. Mrs. Phillips is survived by one brother, Thomas Munday, of Greenville, three sisters, Mrs. Bettie Phillips, of Sharon Grove; Mrs. Sue Gorham, Mrs. Mary Harris, of Lewisburg vicinity; four sons, Dan, Claud and Thonie Phillips of Lewisburg, and Clem Phillips of Claymour. Two daughters, Mrs. Ida Turner, of Everett and Mrs. Myrtie Shemwell, of Claymour. Her remains were interred at Gant Cemetery on February 1, by undertaker Hargrowder of Lewisburg. By One Who Knew Her.
