Austin E. Arner

Austin E. Arner, 85, from Akron, Ohio died June 28 at home in Havelock, N.C., with his family at his side.

He was born in Pennsylvania and moved to Akron Ohio when he was young man. Austin enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 and served in the South Pacific during World War II. After military duty, he drove semi-trucks long distances for various companies. Austin retired from Roadway Express Inc. with more than 30 years of service.

Preceded in death by wife, Marie in 2009; Austin is survived by his only daughter, Karen Lynn Arner-Conley and husband Kelly Conley; step daughter, Marilyn Shriner and son Michael; two granddaughters, Sharon Striglio and fiance, Mike Hedrick, Laura McGlaughlin and husband, Darrin; two great-grandchildren, Sydney and Jerry McGlaughlin; and former wife, Kay Arner Robinson.

Funeral services Saturday, 11 a.m., at Hopkins Lawver Funeral Home, 547 Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio 44312 with Reverend Jeff Gindlesberger officiating. Entombment at Hillside Memorial Park where military rites will be conducted by Mogadore VFW Post 8487. Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Saturday, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Hopkins Lawver, Akron, 330-733-6271)
