John A. Roberts was born near Seneca, New York, October 1843 and died January 25, 1916 aged 72 years, 3 months and 16 days. When 2 years of age his parents came to Michigan, settling near Jonesville, Hillsdale County. Thirty-two years ago, he moved to West Leroy and has lived here ever since. He was married August 20, 1867 to Laura E. Young of Binghampton, N. Y. To them were born 6 children, four of whom proceeded both father and mother in death. His wife died May 22, 1905. Feb. 12, 1907, he was married to Alathea Annis who also died three years la¬ter. October 11, he was again married to Mrs. May Lee of Union City, Mich. He is survived by the wife, two daughters, Mrs. E. G. M ack of Climax and Mrs. George Conklin of Fort Wayne Indiana. Six grandchildren, and one great-grand child, four brothers, Albert, of Kingsley, Kansas, Peleg of Battle Creek, Artie of Kalamazoo and George of Homer Mich. Early in life he was converted and united with the Free-Will Baptist Church later transferring his membership to the M. E. church here. He was conscious almost to the last bearing his suffering with Christian fortitude until God said, “Come up higher.”
Sleep on beloved, sleep and take thy rest Lay down thy head upon thy Saviors breast We loved thee well, but Jesus loves thee best Good-night, Good night. Good-night
The funeral service was held in the West Leroy Methodist church last Thursday afternoon conducted by Rev C. H. Palmatier.
