Dad married Ruby May Carver June 30, 1939. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. She passed away Oct. 4, 2001.
His hobbies and interests were fishing, hunting, gardening and his family. He valued hard work and taught us the same. When dad was about 6 or 8 years old his job was leading a blind man around town selling brooms. When he was 10, he worked at Payne Farm selling applesauce. He took a red wagon door to door and would sell them for 5 cents apiece. He worked at the Proctor Potato Chip Factory. He worked at the Olsen Dairy starting at age 12 to 22. He worked for the railroad for 3 years then for Ironton Steel Plant until they closed. He worked for Lake Side Lime west of Utah Lake until they closed. He ran a ranch at the south end of Salt Lake County. He was the yard foreman for Standard Builders for many years until it closed and then Standard Masonry until he retired.
He is survived by his children Buddy F. (Martha) Jolley, David L. (Linda) Jolley, Leo Thomas (the late Bertha) Jolley, Mae Vonne (Willie) Valdez, Ruby Ann (Lloyd) Reed, Lois Lemings; and many grandchildren, great and great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby, parents, and three brothers.
Dad's favorite saying was, "I am what you see, no more, no less. As bad as the worst and as good as the best. What "the hell" I didn't come here to impress."
Our family would like to thank Caring Hands of Utah, Hearts for Hospice and Home Health, and the Hayes family for their kind, loving care of our father.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Berg Drawing Room Chapel, 185 East Center Street, Provo. Friends may call at the mortuary at 9:00 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Springville Evergreen Cemetery. Condolences may be emailed to [email protected].
