Alva Edward Miller, 88, of Scott City, died Monday, September 2, 2013 at his home.
He was born March 17, 1925 at Poplar Bluff, Mo., the son of Robert J. and Edith E. Simpkins Miller. He and Jean Hodge were married January 14, 1946 at Poplar Bluff. She preceded him in death on February 5, 2005.
Alva had worked as a dispatcher for Union Electric for 41 years, retiring in 1988. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Scott City.
Survivors include; two daughters, Mary Margaret (Rick) Bunting of Campbell, Mo. and Gayle (Jerry) Flentge of Perryville; 9 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Rhonda McCulley, 3 brothers and a sister.
Friends may call Tuesday from 6-7:30 p.m. at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the chapel. Rev. Jeremy Sells will officiate. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Lightner Memorial Cemetery in Scott City.
