Built his home ( about 1815- a cottage) up on the Hill on Union St ( 258 Union-- no longer there). He then built a wing onto his cottage and this house 'The Hill's' first store with a meeting hall upstairs. It became the first post office and in 1831 Andrew Jackson appointed Goddard Reed as Postmaster. Later he went into shoe making, real estate and invested shares in Abington National bank (and other Banks) and in the Old Colony & Fall River Railroad. During his lifetime amassed a large estate.
