A world war 11 veteran and father of Joyce Hume Lilly and grandfather to Mary Carol Lilly Bragg.

Hinton, March 4-James R. Hume, 49, of Meadow Creek died at his home at 11:45 a.m. today of self-inflicted shotgun wounds.
Sheriff F. I. Hellems said that members of family could give no reason other than that Hume had become rather despondent because of illness during the past several days. He had planned the family said, to go to a hospital in Huntington today.
He was employed as assistant signal maintainer on the Chesapeake and Ohio Railway. He was a member of the Meadow Creek Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II.
He was born at Royal in Raleigh County and was a son of the late Robert C. and Virginia Alfraney Hume.
Survivors include his wife, Mary: two brothers: Robert C. Hume of Meadow Creek and David Hume of Laurel Creek: two sisters: Mrs. O.O.Evans of Hinton and Mrs. P. C. Smith of Belleville, Ill.: a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Carol Lilly of Hinton: a son, Jackie Keith Hume , at home: and the following step-children: Chester Surbaugh of Laurel Creek, Ralph Surbaugh of Lewiston, Idaho. Kenneth Surbaugh of Thurmond, Richard and Raymond Surbaugh of Wilmington, Del., Mrs Virignia Shepherd of Portland, Ore., Mrs. Mabel Hopkins of Shelbinia, Ky., and Mrs. Gloria Williams of Meadow Creek.
The body was removed to the E.M. Meadows Funeral Home on park avenue pending completion of funeral arrangements.
