MONTPELIER - Jerry E. Teats Sr., 65, of Montpelier, died Monday morning, Aug. 29, 2005, at his home surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with cancer. Born June 16, 1940, at Montpelier, to Norma Vivian (Bartley) and William Oral Teats, he married Martha E. Fikel on Sept. 2, 1961, and she survives. A lifelong Montpelier resident, he was a machinist at New Era Corporation (formerly ARO Corporation), Bryan, where he had been employed for 28 years. He had served with the United States Marine Corps from 1957-1963. Active in the affairs of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union, he was a member of Local No. 1349, I.A.M., and currently was serving as president of District No. 57 of the I.A.M. He was also serving as vice president of the Ohio State Council of Machinists, was a member of the I.A.M. State Legislative Committee and a member of both the Elective and Organizing Committees of I.A.M. He was also a member of the Montpelier Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 312 and Montpelier Eagles Aerie No. 2246. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary (and wife, Scooter) Teats of Montpelier, Jerry (and friend, Suzanne Cordray) Teats Jr. of Montpelier, and Lonnie (Loretta) Teats of Camden, Mich.; a daughter, Mrs. Bill (Lynne) Hill of Montpelier; nine grandchildren, Hallie and Billy Hill, Amanda and Kendal LaVigne, J.J. Teats, Erica and Stephanie Sito and Allie and Sidney Teats; two great-grandchildren, Trinity and Devon; three brothers, Larry (Irene) Teats of Montpelier, John (Debbie) Teats of Phoenix, Ariz. and Jack (Barb) Teats of Montpelier; and special friends, Donna Teats and David Schooley. Preceding him in death were his parents and a sister, Loretta Penrod. Graveside services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Riverside Cemetery, Montpelier, with the Rev. David Tilly to officiate. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Montpelier Veteran Organizations. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Home Health Care of Community Hospitals and Wellness Centers of Williams County or Cancer Assistance of Williams County. Arrangements are by Wilson-Geesey Funeral Home, Montpelier.
