Orpha (Reed) Gurney, daughter of Noah Reed and Abigail (Rice) Reed, was born Dec.31, 1805 in Cummington, Mass. She married Alonzo Gurney Jan. 25, 1825 in Cummington, Mass. They are the parents of Charles Walter Gurney, founder of the Gurney Seed Co. and Marcus Reed Gurney, along with 6 other children. Alonzo died on his way back from the Gold Rush in 1852. He is buried in Village Cemetery in Cummington, Mass.
