He was the son of the late Frederick W. Bauer Sr. and Helena Mae (Searles) of Colonie; husband of the late Joan E. Reilly; brother of the late Frederick (Harriet) Bauer Jr and Lillian (Robert) Gallup.
At the age of 10 he started working with the family's ice delivery business and later as an auto mechanic. In 1942 he was sworn in over a radio broadcast into the U.S Marine Corps. Louis served our country faithfully as a Corsair Crew Chief for VMF 312 in the Pacific Theater and later served in the Marine Reserves leaving as a Staff Sargent. He was reactivated due to the Korean Conflict and while on leave he married Joan and started his family.
He served the Village of Colonie as Road Commissioner and worked part time policing for the Village.
Lou built many homes in the Capital District notably Bauer Estates, helped build the V.A. Hospital and later formed Bauer / Colitsas Company installing sewers.
Louis was active playing in the Helderberg Baseball League for the Village of Colonie, enjoyed hunting, was a member of the VFW Robert L. Weininger Memorial Post 8692, the 70+ Ski Club, Royal Arcanum, volunteered at the Regional Food Pantry, enjoyed riding his bicycle and joining friends at Colonie Center for walking.
Louis leaves behind his beloved children, Ellen (Jeff Fuller), Louis Jr., Kathleen (Louis) Syndennis, Edward (Kate) Bauer, and grandchildren Edward and Emily Bauer. Uncle to Robert (Marion) Kenneth (Patricia), Ronald (deceased) wife Janet, Frederick III (Evelyn), Shirley Gallup Glass, Jean (Clement) Kinnicutt, many great and great-great nephews and nieces, several cousins also his best friend John Colitsas (Gladys).
