Martin's aunts, Frances and Dorothy Given, were my best friends. I remember Martin when he was very young. It was with great saddness that I learned of his death in Viet Nam. I will always remember him and on this Memorial day I want to express my thanks to him for his honorable service to our country and for his ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Thank you also to his family and friends who lost so much.

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings, Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things. You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung, high in the sunlit silence, hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew, and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God. I didn't know Martin, he was a good bit older than Doug and I but I know he was from a good family, so he had to be a good guy! I would just like to tender my thanks for his duty and my sympathies to his family. It is never easy to lose a loved one, but so much harder when they are young. He would have been on the down side of 50 now.how we wish it was so. My brother made it back, but for those who didn't, may God be with each and every one of their family members, always.
