LAST RITES WEDNESDAY FOR DROWN

Funeral service for Earl Emery Drown, 78, founder and operator of the Drown News Agency, 2531 E. 67th St., since 1919, will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in First United Methodist Church. He died Saturday.

Drown, who lived at 4200 Myrtle Ave., had been a Long Beach resident since 1914. He was born in Whitesville, Mo. He was graduated with honors from Kansas City College of Pharmacy in 1904.

He owned and operated a drugstore in Logan, Kan. From 1906 to 1914, when he came to Long Beach. He owned the Drown Drug Store at 16th Street and American Avenue 1914-26.

He was first treasurer and one of the organizers of Pacific Coast Independent Magazine Wholesaler’s Association and a charter member of the Civic League.

Other memberships were Seaside Lodge, F&AM (charter), Knights Templar, Bettina Chapter, OES (charter); Long Beach Kiwanis Club, and First Methodist Church board member.

Surviving are his wife, Blanche A., member of the Board of Education 1933-45 and president 1939-40, son, Jack A., who has worked through the years with the father; a brother, M. Dale, and grandchildren, Maureen, Bruce and Larry Drown.

Holton & Son Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements. The family asked that gifts be made to the Cancer Fund.
