Christopher Stephen Grimes III, age 8, passed away while in the arms of his loving parents on Sept. 5, 2013, after a valiant four year long battle with Neuroblastoma cancer. Christopher was born in Burlington on July 27, 2005, the son of Kristin and Christopher Jr., owners of the Stowehof Inn in Stowe.

Christopher was the Grimes' firstborn child and the big brother of Gillian (age 5) and Daniel (age 4). He attended Stowe schools, was an enthusiastic skier at Stowe Mountain, and remained a cheerful, active boy throughout the trials of cancer. He also loved to swim, play tennis and had a particular fondness of rockets and fireworks. Christopher's big blue eyes and freckled face could always make people smile. He loved to tell jokes and play with his many friends. He also had a gentle, compassionate side and was eager to help others.

Christopher is survived by his parents, Christopher Jr. "CJ" and Kristin; sister, Gillian; brother, Daniel; maternal grandmother, Peg "Nannie" of Weymouth, Mass.; paternal grandparents, Susan and Christopher Sr. "Oma and Opa" of Stowe; as well as many doting aunts, uncles and cousins. Christopher leaves behind so many friends and classmates who could not have been more supportive of their buddy. The Grimes family will never forget when some of his friends shaved their heads in solidarity to show that "Bald is Cool." Christopher was embraced by a very a generous and warm community who actively supported his family's fundraising events for pediatric cancer research, as well as "Christopher's Flock" of pink flamingos.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Stowe on Sept. 9, 2013, at 11 a.m. A private burial will take place at the family's plot in Bridport. A celebration of Christopher's life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the NMTRC at the Helen De Vos Children's Hospital, as the doctors and researchers there are working to find a cure for Neuroblastoma. Eight years is too short of a life, but there is still time and hope for other families. Donations can be made online at www.canmass.com, through the secure website of this summer's 4th annual fundraiser for the NMTRC. Checks can be made out to "Helen De Vos Children's Hospital - NB Fund," c/o Peg McCobb, 75 Rinaldo Road, Weymouth, MA 02191.
