GEORGE T. ABNATHY JR.

George T. Abnathy Jr., 84, died Sept. 30, 2007, at Thomas Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.
"Ab," as he was fondly called, was a product of the Kanawha County School system. He was a World War II veteran who earned a medal and citations while serving in the European Theatre. He worked various jobs in the Charleston area until he landed a job working for the Kroger Company from which he retired in 1993.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rosa Morris Hall Abnathy and George T. Abnathy Sr. and 11 brothers and sisters.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Elayne Crozier Abnathy; two children, Thomas of Charleston and Carol Abnathy of Washington, D.C.; four grandchildren, Lori Abnathy, Thomas Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Carin Abnathy of Hollywood, Calif., and Charles Abnathy of Charleston; six great-grandchildren, Kingston Bems, Lauren Abnathy, Victoria and Merika Abnathy, Charles Abnathy Jr., Nicole Abnathy; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Service will be Monday, Oct. 8, at First Baptist Church at 1 p.m.
Preston Funeral Home, Charleston, is in charge of the arrangements.
