George W. Baker Dead
He Suddenly Expires at One o'clock Tuesday There was no man in Middletown who was better known to the people than ex-High Constable George W. Baker, and when the news of his death was announced, shortly after one o'clock, many of his friends were loath to believe it. Mr. Baker had been in the upper end of the county last Tuesday on a hunting expedition and contracted a heavy cold, which resulted in a severe attack of la grippe and symptoms of pneumonia, which was the cause of his death. He was born in the borough of Lykens and came to Middletown when quite a boy. He was a son of G. W. Baker, deceased, who died in Lykens a few months ago, and a brother of the late Nathaniel Baker. About twenty-three years ago he was married to Miss Emma Cochran of Marietta.
Since Mr. Baker has resided in Middletown, he has won many friends. For several years he was assistant baggage master at the P. R. R. passenger depot. For seven years he served the borough in the capacity of high constable and was always considered a reliable officer. He was a member of Middletown Council No. 156, Jr. O. U. A. M.
A wife, three daughters, Carrie, Mary and Grace, one son, James, an aged mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Baker, who resides on Lawrence street with the family of Thomas Flanagan and one brother, John, who resides on East Main street, survive him. He was in the 42nd year of his age.
