Ruth Verseman of Crystal Lake Ruth Verseman, 78, passed away Monday, July 26, 2010 at The Fountains in Crystal Lake. She was born March 30, 1932, in Farrar, Mo., to the late Theodor and Lydia (nee Bachman) Mangels. Ruth was baptized, confirmed, and married at Farrar's Salem Lutheran Church. After her marriage in 1952, to Homer Verseman, also of Farrar, Ruth and Homer moved to Crystal Lake, where she worked for District 47 for 1½ years. After taking time to raise her family, Ruth began working for District 155. For the last 15 years of her career she was Secretary to the Board of Education. She retired in 1997. Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, was a member of their married couples (MARCO) club, and also served on the executive board of the Parent-Teacher League during the time her children attended Immanuel Lutheran School. She was also a member of the Crystal Lake Home Arts Guild. In retirement Ruth volunteered at the Bethesda Thrift shop. Alongside Homer, she volunteered for PADS; for Crystal Lake's Faith in Action; and for Mid-Pointe Ministry at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Ruth and Homer celebrated 58 years of marriage in April 2010. She is survived by her husband, Homer; her children, Steven Verseman and Scott Verseman of Crystal Lake, and Susan (Stuart) Klein of Aberdeen, Scotland; grandson, Jotham Klein of New York, N.Y.; granddaughter, Hanna Klein of Aberdeen, Scotland; and her sister, Alice Bachman of Perryville, Mo. Ruth was preceded in death by her four brothers, Alfred, Arnold, Walter, and Reinhold; and by two sisters, Norma Verseman and Wilma Meinz. The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave. (Route 176), Crystal Lake. She will lie in state Friday, July 30 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Pathway Court, Crystal Lake. The Rev. Larry Tieman will officiate. Burial will be in Windridge Cemetery in Cary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the "4 Those 2 Come" fund at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 300 Pathway Court, Crystal Lake, IL 60014 or to Seasons Hospice, 606 Potter Road, Des Plaines, IL 60016.
