Margaret was born in Liverpool England. Her father was a pavier / quarryman. She grew up in the Howebrook house cottage in Heskin, Lancashire. Her Father had joined the Mormon Church at the age of 16. Her grandfather was one of the earliest converts to the Church in England in 1837. When Margaret was 17 years old, they made preparations for the family of 8 to emigrate to Zion. They crossed the Atlantic on the steamship Colorado. It then took about a week to travel by train from New York to the outfitting place in Benton, Wyoming where they met the teamsters led by Daniel D. McArthur from St.George. They left Benton a week later. The company included 411 passengers and 61 wagons. Twenty-five of the wagons were loaded with goods destined for stores in Salt Lake, including the new Zion's Cooperative Mercantile Institution. They arrived in Salt Lake on September 2. Seven souls, mostly young children, died en route.

Margaret's family including all the children arrived safely.

Her Uncle Richard Benson emigrated to Utah in the 1850s and was one of the earliest pioneers of Parowan. The Nathan Benson family settled in Parowan where Margaret became acquainted with Daniel Seavey Pendleton. They were married in 1870. Margaret was 19 yrs old. She bore a son and 4 daughters who all survived to adulthood. She died 5 days after the birth of her daughter Mary at the age of 32.
