Dorothy Roddy Colemere, age 91, passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2013 in San Antonio. She was born on October 7, 1921 in Flint, Texas to E. Benson and Martha Craft Roddy. Dorothy graduated from Lon Morris College in Jacksonville and joined the Women's Army Corps during WWII in 1943. She served on the staff of General Carl Spaatz who was the US Strategic Allied Forces commander in Europe. Dorothy was a war room stenographer. She knew of all the top secret Allied plans as they were being planned. She also knew about the Allies breaking the German codes (Enigma) which remained secret for several decades after the war. Dorothy received the Bronze Star for her service during WWII along with four other medals. Dorothy met her husband, Hollis E. Colemere (who also served on the General's staff), and they were married in Paris, France at the end of the war in Europe. Hollis and Dorothy returned after the war to San Antonio where they raised their four children and ran a successful business. Dorothy had many interests over the years. She was very involved in garden clubbing. She is a former president of the San Antonio Garden Center. She was a certified national flower show judge. Dorothy was also very involved in the local politics of Castle Hills and Hill Country Village during the 50's and 60's. She even served on the City Council for a time, rising to office of Mayor of Hill Country Village. Dorothy's lifelong passion was photography. She was a very gifted photographer who captured nature with the eye of an artist. Dorothy and Hollis spent a great deal of time in Ouray, Colorado where they had a second home. They were married for 57 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis E. Colemere and brother, Frank Roddy. Dorothy is survived by her sons, Joseph Colemere (Linda), Kenneth Colemere (Ilna) and Michael Colemere (Vicky); daughter, Martha Stipp (Rusty); grandchildren, Kenneth Colemere, Jr., Jonathan Colemere, Valerie Stipp Przyojski (Daniel), Alexandra Colemere and Connor Colemere; siblings, Melba McKnight, Margie Veal (Jake), Etha Mae Renfro, Joy Kruger (Cal), Pert Garraway (Fred) and Kenneth Roddy (Joyce) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
