Johnathan Bridges is the third son of James and Mary Ann Stockdale Bridges. He never married.

John Bridges served in the Civil War as a private in Co. G, 16 Ky Inf. and as such was provided a military headstone. All of his brothers also served in the Union Army. He enlisted on 23 Sept 1861 in Camp Kenton, Kentucky at age 20.
