He was born May 17, 1916, in Surry County to James Hardin and Wilda Boyles Willard.
Mr. Willard was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Artillery in the European and South Pacific Theaters of Operations. He was retired from Amos and Smith Hosiery, a member and a deacon at First Baptist Church, secretary of the Sunday school, and served on the ordinance committee for many years.
Mr. Willard was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Catherine Gordon.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2001, at First Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Pilot Mountain City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2001, at the church.
Memorials may be made in floral tribute or to First Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 818, Pilot Mountain, NC 27041 or Northern Home Care, 830 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to all their friends, neighbors and church family for all their help and kindness and to the staff at The Nursing Center at Oak Summit for their many kind acts during Mr. Willard's stay there.
