Mary S. Allen | Hansen-Spear Funeral Home - Quincy, IllinoisMary was born May 1, 1922, in Labelle, Missouri, the daughter of Arthur and Rebecca Culpen Redding. She married Harry W. Allen on June 18, 1948, in Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ in Quincy, IL. Mary, a believer in the sanctity of marriage, was a loving wife to Harry. Together they created a nurturing and loving home for their family. Harry preceded her in death on September 16, 2010.
Mary was a graduate of LaBelle High School. She has been a member of the Salem Women's Guild, and she was a past President of Madison School P.T.A. Mary was a prolific quilter who also enjoyed needlepoint. She often donated quilts for fund raisers at Salem Church.
Survivors include: four children: Ann Caldwell of IL; Christina Allen of IA; Jo (Roger) Swango of TX; and Harry Wayne (Susan) Allen of MO; ten grandchildren: Corina (Bobby) Richards of IL; Christopher (Michelle) Caldwell of IL; Cassandra Caldwell of CA; Eric (Alexis) Thompson of IA; Amy Allen of MN; Jacob and Erin Benz both of IL; Jaime Swango of CO; and Amanda and Victoria Allen both of MO; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandra (Ray) Cegas of IL; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mary was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Redding.
Services: 11:00 am Monday, September 9, 2013, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Scott Grulke officiating.
Burial: Greenmount Cemetery
