Doug was a neat guy. Although he could be a little underhanded at times. I met him first at Clay Lamberton Junior High in 6th grade. He was an athlete, and I never hung out with them because I wasn't one. I had a number of classes with him. I remember that he was in my homeroom at "Clay". He always seemed to be breaking bones. I remember him on crutches quite a lot. But boy, could he move on crutches! He really got the hang of the things. After graduation in 1977 I never stayed in touch. He was killed in a motor vehicle accident the following summer after we graduated. Doug and two other of his friends went out driving one afternoon and their car collided with a loaded cattle truck on Hwy 116, just outside of Berlin. Steve Pope, another classmate of mine of the Class of '77, who was in the car also died. Jeff Treu, also in the class of '77, survived. Now he has to live with this for the rest of his life.

He isn't family, nor was he a close friend, but a fellow classmate of mine from 1977.

May He Rest in Peace.
