The record of her baptism in the register of St Oswald Church at Farnham, North Yorkshire, reads "Maria Pullen, filia Joh'is, armiger, baptizate Feb 27" [1582/3]. Her parents were John Pulleyn, esquire, of Scotton Old Hall, and Mary Tempest of Broughton Hall.
