Cloyde David Flatt was born on 1 Sep 1909 in Urbana, Champaign County, Illinois. His parents were Floyd Rock Flatt and Mary Louise Ziegler. He had a twin brother named Floyde Ormand and a sister Katherine Marie. According to Military draft registration records, Cloyde was 67 inches tall and weighed 146 pounds. In his early years, he lived with his parents in Thomasboro, Champaign County, Illinois. According to the 1910 United States Federal Census taken on 28 April 1910, there were renting a home in Thomasboro, Champaign County, Illinois. At the time, Cloyde was 9 months old and lived with his parents Mary Z Flatt (22) and Floyd R Flatt (20) and his twin brother Floyde (9 Mos). Sometime before 1917, it appears that his parents separated since his father Floyd was registered as living in South Dakota with a new wife according to his 1917 Draft Registration Card and the 1920 census. According to the 1920 United States Federal Census taken 7 Jan 1920, Cloyde was 10 years old and along with his mother Mary Flatt (31) and his two siblings, Floyde (10) and Catherine R (7), lived with his grandfather David Ziegler (74). According to the 1930 United States Federal Census taken 18 Apr 1830, they were still living with his grandfather in the Village of Thomasboro, Rantoul Township in Champaign County, Illinois. At the time, Cloyde D was 20 years old and along with his mother Mary Flatt (41) and his two siblings; Floyde O (20), and Catherine M (17) lived with his grandfather David Ziegler (84). According to the 1940 United States Federal Census taken on 16 Apr 1940, his mother now owned a home in Thomasboro, Champaign, Illinois. At the time, Cloyde was 30 years old and lived with his mother Mary Flatt (52) (says widowed, but not) and his sister Catharine Payne (27) and her husband Paul Payne (27). In addition, his maternal uncle David Ziegler Jr. (64) (says widowed, but not) also lived with them.
He married Mary Elizabeth Buckley around 19 Jul 1941 in Champaign County, Illinois. Cloyde and Mary had 5 children; Betty Jean, Cloyde William, Paul Floyde, David Jeffrey, Donald Boniface. Sometime after his marriage to Mary in 1941, it appears they moved to Peoria, Illinois. He enlisted as a Private in the US Army on 4 Jan 1943 in Peoria, Illinois. However, he was medically discharge on 13 Sep 1943 after only 6 months. Sometime after he returned from Service (around 1945), they moved to Tucson, Arizona. It appears he resided in Tucson until his death in 1978.

Cloyde passed away at the age of 69 on 15 Sep 1978 in Tucson, Pima, Arizona. Funeral services were held on Monday 18 Sep 1978 in Adair Chapel. He was laid to rest in East Lawn Palms Cemetery in Tucson, Pima, Arizona.
