On September 7, 2013 a grand commencement was held for Curtis G. Agren. He returned home to the loving arms of his Heavenly Father surrounded by his adoring family. He was born July 3, 1943 in Ogden, UT and was the son of Grant Agren and Louisa G. Smith. He was the second of three children.

Curtis graduated from Weber High School in 1961, then served a full time mission in Scotland. He served his country in the Army Reserves for ten years, then transferred to the Air Force reserves and served another eight years. He furthered his education and graduated from Weber State College with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education. Curtis thoroughly enjoyed being a teacher in the Weber County School District for many years. His love for teaching spilled over in many aspects of his life and more importantly in the lives of his family. This was well demonstrated in the many valuable lessons he exemplified and taught. Endless was his wisdom.

Curtis was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He had a strong testimony of his Savior Jesus Christ and his plan of happiness for us. He served faithfully in many church callings and his greatest joy was just being in service to all who knew him. Anyone who knew Curtis will remember his infectious smile, laugh, and sense of optimism. He won over many hearts by making each person feel like they were very special to him. Being a gentle giant was a hallmark of his life and many of his children/grandchildren saw him as their hero. He was a perfect example of what a man needs to be as a husband, father, grandfather and friend. Curtis cherished his family, supporting the events and endeavors that would bring us all together.

Another characteristic he was well known for was the amazing love he had for his wife, Darlene. They met at a square dance, fell in love and as they say, the rest was history. They were married on June 29, 1996 and then on July 3, 2004, Curtis received one of his greatest birthday gifts, by being sealed to his sweetheart in the Bountiful, Utah Temple. Their marriage was one that was admired by family and friends alike, and one that should be emulated by all.

Curtis truly loved life and enjoyed many hobbies including a love for all God's creatures, especially his little "Birdie." He was a meticulous planner of trips, traveling the world over where he shared many great adventures with his little "Darlin." He enjoyed searching for treasures at garage sales where he wheeled and dealed for the best bargains. He captured family memories by taking many pictures. He loved the outdoors, working hard in his garden and on his pond, watching movies, reading and learning. He was a handyman and Jack of all trades evidenced by the years he spent renovating homes.

Curtis is survived by his wife Darlene and his children: Andy (Jen), John (Kathryn), Mark (Christine), Nathan (Dawn), Jenny (Matt) and Annette. Also survived by Darlene's children: Rick (Gerri), Debbie (Darren), Michelle (Nick), Jill (Jeff), Dustin (Natalie), Jeremiah (Renee), 43 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two sisters LouAnn (Mike) and Kaylen (Jed).

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the Syracuse 7th Ward Chapel, 1171 W. 1625 S. Friends may visit with family Wednesday evening at Lindquist's Layton Mortuary, 1867 Fairfield Rd. from 6 to 8 p.m. and at the chapel from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral service.

Interment will be at the Syracuse City Cemetery.
