The last male descendent of a family whose name is connected richly with the pioneer traditions of Rochester was removed with the death early yesterday morning of James Sherlock Andrews, aged 74 years, at his home No. 122 St. Paul Street. He died in the very bed and in the same room in which he was born. The home, at the southwest corner of St. Paul and Andrews Street, probably is the oldest dwelling in Rochester, having been built in 1817 by Samuel George Andrews, father of the latest occupant James Sherlock Andrews. Mr. Andrews was born in Rochester on October 5. 1846. the only son of the pioneer Rochesterian whose estate extended from St. Paul Streets down to the river bank. His father died when he was 16 years old. After his graduation from a private school in New England, he entered the University of Rochester and was admitted to the bar but he never practiced law. He was a member of Delta Psi fraternity. A man of means, Mr. Andrews spent much of his life in leisurely pursuits, which were marked, however, by quietly performed acts of generosity. Always a member of the Episcopal Church, he erected a chapel at St. Andrews Church in memory of his mother. At his summer home in Maine he erected a memorial to an uncle. Upon this home he devoted much of the attention of his later years. He was a man of literary attainments known as a [lover] of literature and art. These and his friends were his principal delights, enjoyed in the glass enclosed den near Andrews Street which he added to the original homestead

ANDREWS HOME COEXISTENT WITH CITY'S HISTORY
St. Paul Street Landmark Is Offered for Sale
STANDS FOR OVER CENTURY

After being the home of one family for more than a century, the Andrews place at St. Paul and Andrews Streets, is for sale. With the death of Sherlock Andrews on Easter Sunday it ceased to be the abode of the family whose name and influence in the city inseparable from its history. With business closing in on every side, save where the Genesee river flows in the rear, the homestead seemed to be the most unyielding structure in a century of marvelous changes.

According to the transfer tax deposition in Monroe County surrogate's court the estate of the late Sherlock Andrews amounted to $1328,043.85.
