The funeral of Marcus Lafayette Jackson, known throughout this section as "Crockett" Jackson, w well know citizen of New Holland, were held at the New Holland Baptist church Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. The attendance was very large. The services were conducted by the Rev. A. C. Baker.
Interment followed at the Gunter cemetery near Seivern.
Mt=r. Jackson had not been well for some time but the day of his death was supposed to be improving. Late Tuesday afternoon, while in the yard with his wife, he told he was not feeling well and as she sought to aid him to reach the house he suddenly collapsed and in a few moments was dead.
Mr. Jackson had lived for several years at New Holland, moving there from his boyhood home in Williston. He was married three times as was also his surviving widow. His first wife was a Miss Reid, his second a Miss Brogdon and his third, Mrs. Gunter. To his third wife, he was married four years.
The following children survive, Mrs. E. C. Lowe, of Aiken, W. L. Jackson of Barnwell and Jim Jackson of Nevada. Also there survive two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Lybrand of Wagener and Mrs. R. L. Gunter of Aiken, and one brother, Henry Jackson of Alabama.
Mr. Jackson was a member of New Holland Baptist church and a man of fine Christian character. He was highly esteemed by his neighbors. The large attendance, at his funeral, for eloquent testimony to the esteem in which he was held.
