Joseph Francis Steegmuller married Bertha Tierney and they were parents of:Francis Steegmuller, Lawrence Steegmuller,& Joseph Francis Steegmuller, Jr. Their first born son Francis Steegmuller was a noted author who wrote under the pseudonym's Byron Steel, and David Keith as well as in his own name. He was an American biographer, translator and fiction writer, who was known chiefly as a Flaubert scholar. Their youngest son died as an infant. Joseph Steegmuller and wife Bertha Tierney Steegmuller are at rest in St. Mary's Cemetery with her brother and his family.
