Mrs. Mary Learned—Pioneer's Daughter
Mrs. Mary Poppleton Learned, 86, of 316 South Fiftieth Avenue, a life-long Omahan, author and music critic, died unexpectedly at her home Friday night.
She was the daughter of Andrew J. Poppleton, pioneer who formed Nebraska's first law firm and represented Omaha in the first Territorial Legislature.
Mrs. Learned was educated in women's schools in Connecticut and New York. She was a charter member of the Omaha Art Institute, the Colonial Dames of America in Nebraska, a member of the Tuesday Musical Club, Omaha Civic Music Association and Omaha Club.
She was the author of essays and dramatic pantomimes which were acted here and in Chicago and music writer for the old Omaha Bee.
Her husband, Myron I. Learned, a prominent attorney, died in 1928. He was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1908 and was once endorsed by the Omaha and Nebraska Bar Associations for a seat on the United States Circuit Court.
Services will be Monday at 2pm in the Trinity Episcopal Cathedral Nativity Chapel. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Survivors include two grandnephews, William S. Poppleton 3d, Omaha, and Samuel K. Poppleton, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
