Shirley Vonne Essary Kryder passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013. She was born June 29, 1939 in Baileyboro, TX to Carl Essary and Opal McCarty Essary. Ms Kryder was raised in the Floyd area and attended Floyd schools. She married Donald Kryder on June 23, 1956, and they raised three children. They divorced in 1980.

Ms Kryder lived in various places over the years, but always called the Floyd/Portales area "home." She finally moved back to the area to stay in 1984.

No matter what Shirley was involved in, she brought creativity to the task. She was an accomplished, self-taught water color artist, and over the years she practiced and taught many textile arts.

She was an avid reader, interested in history and astronomy, but her passion was always people. She never met a stranger, and loved conversing with anyone on any subject. She will be missed by many.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Starla and Milton McEntire of Fairbanks, AK; daughter Dawn Kryder and her partner Colleen Lyon of Portales; and a son, Robert Kryder of the Santa Fe, NM area; one sister, Carlene Zant of Andrews, TX; four brothers, Bob Essary of Bluffville, TX and friend, Janice; Don Essary and wife, Linda of Floyd, NM; Hershel Essary and wife Lyda of Portales and the Bell Ranch, NM; Joe Essary and wife, Betty of Portales; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Gwen and husband Bracken Jackson of Wasilla, AK; Vonnette Tice and partner Josh Dietz and daughters, Kyndall and Whitley of DeFuniak springs, FL, William McEntire and wife, Stephanie and children Triston and Aubrey of North Pole, AK; and many, many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents.
