CARL RAYMOND PAGEL
1916 ~ 2013
Raymond Pagel passed away at the age of 96 on September 3, 2013 at his home after a long battle with cancer. He was the first born of Carl Chris Pagel and Cora Viola (Jennings) Pagel on December 3, 1916 on their farm north of Schramm, Colorado. The family moved to a farm 7.5 miles north of Yuma where he grew up from the age of one.
As an infant he was baptized as a Lutheran. He began school at Hammond school and continued there thru 6th grade. He attended Lutheran Day School in Yuma for grades 7 and 8. He attended 9th at Concordia Lutheran High School in Seward, Nebraska. Raymond returned to Yuma and completed his education at Yuma Union High School.
Raymond worked 1 year at C.C.C. Work Relief Camps at Trinidad and Castle Rock, Colorado.
In 1935 Raymond and Marjorie Louise Gumm married and lived north of Yuma. They were blessed with Barbara Darlene, Lonna Marie, Raymond Wayne (Sonny), and Marietta Louise.
Raymond and his cousin Lawrence Gisi drove trucks during WWII. Raymond and family moved to Portland, Oregon working at St. John's shipyards for two years.
They returned to Yuma, to continue his lifelong career of farming for his father and himself, which he dearly loved and enjoyed in spite of all the hardships (hail, too little or too much rain, wind, heat, and bugs). He also was partners with his brother, Ivan, in a painting business. Later the family moved to Otis, where Raymond and his brother, Leonard, were co-owners of Otis Millet Farms where they packaged different sizes of wild bird seed.
At the age of 26 Raymond rededicated his life to Jesus and become very involved in the church. He was on the church council, taught Sunday school, helped in services as needed, and helped build the First Assembly of God Church in Yuma. He was always ready to testify about his belief in Christ.
In 1955 Raymond married Eulah Jodeane Smith and built their home in Otis. They were blessed with a daughter Lorinda Kay.
Raymond was a member of the Otis Lion's Club and bowling league. He served Otis town council, Otis Sanitation Board and a member of the Akron Foursquare Church. After retiring Raymond and Jodeane enjoyed many trips to visit their daughters. Also they enjoyed fishing trips to many places, Lake McConaughy was enjoyed for many years.
Raymond is survived by Jodeane his wife of 58 years. Daughters: Barbara Peterson and husband Warner of Pueblo, CO, Lonna Moore and husband Ray of Houston, TX, Marietta Williams of Broomfield, CO, Lorinda Lyon and husband Rod of Yuma, CO. Grandchildren: Dawna Nolan Dwyer of Denver, CO, Todd Peterson and wife Cherree of Concord CA, Shelly Root of Clover, South Carolina, Pamela Levinson and husband Tony of Houston, TX, Diane Chapline and husband Billy of Houston, TX, Richard Thorne and wife Regina of Thornton, CO, Tammy Galloway and husband Jeff of Thornton, CO, Karen Gifford and husband John of Waller, TX, Angela Jacobs and husband Robby in Switzerland, Joshua Lyon of Greeley, CO, 13 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren. Sister Rosalie Nesbitt and husband Bill of Yuma, CO. Brother Eddie Pagel and Carrie of Ft. Morgan, CO. Also, numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and a host of friends.
Raymond was preceded in death by his son Raymond Wayne Pagel, parents Carl and Viola Pagel, and sisters Mildred Pagel, Margie Green, and brothers Walter, Ivan, Clifford, and Leonard Pagel, great grandson Daniel Littleton.
Raymond was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He loved and enjoyed his family. He will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at the Akron Foursquare Church in Akron, Colorado with Mike Kinney officiating, interment followed in the Yuma Cemetery in Yuma, Colorado. Baucke Funeral Home directed the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cal Farley Boys Ranch, PO Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas; Akron Four Square Church; Hospice of the Plains or the Gideons.
