REED Funeral for Rosa Lee McAlexander Pruett, 92, Reed, will be at 2 p.m. Friday with Bro. Bill Mosley, Mangum, officiating.

Burial will follow at Reed Cemetery under direction of Greer Funeral Home, Mangum.

She passed away Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2013, at her home in Reed. She would have been 93 on Sept. 22.

Rosa Lee McAlexander Pruett was born Sept. 22, 1920, at Reed, to W.L. and Agnes Harbour McAlexander. Except for living in Mangum for two years as a child, she lived all her life in the Jay Buckle and Reed communities. She attended Jay Buckle School until it consolidated with Reed in the fall of 1934. She graduated from Reed High School in 1938 as valedictorian of the first graduating class in the new building. On Sept. 29, 1940, Clarence Pruett, also of Reed, and Rosa Lee McAlexander were united in marriage in the home of O.S. Brewer at Mangum. Clarence and Rosa Lee had graduated the same year from Reed. They were married 72 years at the time of her death, and would have been married 73 years on Sept. 29. She was a homemaker and a devoted and loving wife and mother to her family as well as a helpmate with their farming and ranching operation until Clarence retired from ranching in 2002. To this union, two daughters were born: Barbara Louise and Gloria Aline. Rosa Lee was saved in 1936 and became a member of Sulphur Missionary Baptist Church, Reed, in 1938, where she continued to be a faithful and dedicated member until her health failed. She also served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Serving in a rural church, preachers and evangelists usually traveled from a distance and during their lives the Pruetts opened their home unselfishly for meals and lodging for pastors and visiting preachers.

She is survived by her husband, Clarence Pruett, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law: Louise and Larry Paxton, Blair; and Gloria and Randy Mosley, Snyder; one grandson, Brandon Mosley, Choctaw; and one brother, J.B. McAlexander, Willow.

She was preceded in death by her mother in 1930 and her father in 1947; two brothers: Walter Gene McAlexander (1967) and Eural Harbour McAlexander (2007); two sisters: Exa Culpepper (1986) and Opal Mayfield (2010); and a half brother, Walter Lee McAlexander (1993).
