George F. Trimmer
George F. Trimmer, son of John D. and Mary Elizabeth Trimmer, was born in Chenoa, McClain (sic) county, Illinois, July 8, 1867, and departed this life November 10, 1945 at the age of 78 years, 4 months and two days.
He came to Kansas in 1870 at the age of three years with his parents in a covered wagon and resided in Kansas the rest of his life. He lived through the first hard years of the pioneers in the sod house which his father built and later as a farmer went through the years of drouth (sic), grasshoppers and hard knocks that beset the early settlers. He farmed most of his life until 1927 when he left the farm and moved to Belleville.
He was united in marriage to Addie Hawkins February 19, 1895 and to this union were born three daughters and two sons, Bessie L., Freda O., Jennie E., Burl and Frank, all of which were born and raised in Republic county.
He was the oldest of a family of 12 having five brothers and six sisters, seven of which preceded him in death, including his father and mother.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his loving wife, his daughters, Mrs. Bessie Howard and Mrs. Freda Grueber of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Jennie Stromberg of Scandia, Kansas, his sons, Burl Trimmer of Brewster, Kansas and Frank Trimmer of Scandia, Kansas, also two brothers, Fletcher Trimmer of Glenwood, Iowa and Richard Trimmer of Los Angeles, two sisters, Mrs. Theressa Hawkins of South Omaha and Melissa Hazelette of Los Angeles, Cal., also 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Trimmer celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last February.
Mr. Trimmer has been in ill health since last June following an attack of the flu and had never fully recovered.
At the time of his death he was visiting at the home of his oldest daughter, Mrs. Ivan Howard at Wichita. he had awakened early in the morning and had dressed for breakfast when he was stricken with a fatal heart attack and death was instantaneous. His remains were returned to Belleville and services and burial will be in Washington cemetery.
He was a loving husband and father as well as a good neighbor and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
