Gate City - Colleen Lane Fields, 85, of Gate City went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning (October 17, 2011) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness. She was a lifelong resident of Scott County. Colleen graduated from Shoemaker High School. She worked at Giant Food Markets for several years and retired from Meade Paper. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle A. Fields; parents, Charles and Leota Bellamy Lane; sisters, Frankie Bishop, Polly Bell Boy, and Georgia Tipton; a daughter-in-law, Janice Fields.
Colleen Fields is survived by her sons, Jerry Fields, Charles Fields and wife, Cathy, Roger Fields (all of Gate City, VA), Chester Fields (Kingsport, TN); 5 grandchildren, Amethyst Silvers, Robbie, Josh, Jacob, and Jessica Fields; 3 great grandchildren; a special niece, Mary Johnston and husband, Jim along with 2 additional nieces, Linville Bishop and Brenda Dingus.
A graveside service will be conducted on Wednesday (October 19, 2011) at 11 a.m. at Holston View Cemetery with Brother Larry Crawford officiating. Her sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Family and friends attending the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Higher Ground Baptist Church Building Fund, 1625 Lynn Garden Drive, Kingsport, TN 37665. Scott County Funeral Home is serving the Fields family.
