Dan Chol Paek, passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2003. Loving father of Elizabeth and Natalie Paek; beloved son of Thomas and Chong Riales; grandson of Pong Paek, fiancee of Lan Nguyen; brother of Patricia and her husband, Charles Bassett, Brian and Charles Lewis; and uncle of Ciara Gonzales, Charles Bassett Jr., Shanna Lee Lewis and Brad Lewis. Friends may visit on Thursday, July 17 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at Demaine Springfield-Annandale Chapel, Backlick and Edsall Roads, Springfield. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 18 at Fairfax Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, 400 7th St., N.W., Suite 300, Washington, D.C. 20004.

The United States Marshals Service wishes to preserve the honor of Dan Paek, an outstanding Deputy U.S. Marshal who tragically lost his life in a motor vehicle accident on July 13th 2003.

Dan immigrated from South Korea during his teenage years and began his law enforcement career with the Alexandria Virginia Police Department in 1984. Dan spent the next 19 years working for both state and local law enforcement. His tours of duty included the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington, D.C., a Special Agent with the Immigration and Naturalization Service, and finally as a Deputy U.S. Marshal.
