Frederick was the youngest of 7 children. He was widely known in Trumbull County as one of its most representative pioneer citizens.

His parents moved from Penn to Warren, Ohio in the 1830's. His father was numbered among the very early businessmen of Warren.

Frederick was educated in Warren City schools and later studied in Woodster where his sister was a member of the faculty of the old Woodster Seminary.

Frederick married Lizzie Jeffrey on 25 Oct 1873 and they were blessed with two children-Fanny and James.

Frederick remembered the Civil War very clearly. Two of his brothers served in the war.

Frederick died at his home in North Bristol. At the time of his death he had five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
