ARCOLA — Amanda Jane Conners, 79, of Arcola died 4:40 p.m. Monday (Aug. 18, 2003) in her home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Arcola, with the Rev. Allen Kemme as celebrant. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in Shrader Funeral Home, Arcola, with 5 p.m. wake service.

Burial will be in Arcola Cemetery. Memorials: St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Arcola Public Library.

Mrs. Conners was born Nov. 13, 1923, in Ficklin, the daughter of Harley Alvin and Celia Belle Rideout Riley. She worked as a telephone operator for Illinois Consolidated Telephone for several years and then worked in the office of Thomas Monahan Co. for seven years. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was involved in the Douglas County Democratic Party and loved politics. She loved to read, especially murder mysteries.

She married John Joseph Conners on Feb. 4, 1956, in Arcola. He preceded her in death June 27, 2001.

Surviving are her son, Robert Michael Doyle of Champaign; brother, Robert Riley and wife Marjorie of Tuscola; sister-in-law, Mary Conners of Arcola; nine nephews and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her husband; sister, Lena McGee; brother, Ross Riley; and niece, Beverly Franz.
