Born at Victorbur, Aurich, Niedersachsen, Germany, she was the daughter of Anton and Henrietta Johnson Geiken.

Mrs. Ella Tammen, 83, died at 5 o'clock Wednesday evening at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Pearl LaPorte, 447 South Fourth avenue, following a lingering illness.

A resident of this city for 35 years, she is the mother-in-law of Alderman Edmund LaPorte.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Rehr funeral home and one half hour later from St. John Evangelical church at Entrance and Oak streets. Burial will be in Mound Grove.

Born Sept. 8, 1858 in Hanover, Germany, she came to the United States at the age of 9 years, settling at Minonk. In 1876 she was married to Ihne Tammen. They were the parents of 13 children, 11 of whom survive: Mrs. Anna Kohl of Bourbonnais, Henry and Ihne of Limestone, Mrs. Kate Griswold of Aroma Park, Mrs. Etta Allgaier of Miller, S.D., Mrs. Pearl Laporte, Mrs. Leeta Diggle and Julius of Kankakee, Mrs. Ella Sterling, Mrs. Lida Mann and Raymond of New York.

Also surviving are a sister Mrs. Kate Vosperg of Wyndemere, N.D., 20 grandchildren and 24 Great-grandchildren. The husband and two sons preceded her in death.
