Terrie Linn McNutt Hall, 53 years 1 month and 28 days of age, of Lexington, North Carolina, departed this life on Monday, September 16th, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Terrie was born on July 19th, 1960 in Macomb County, Michigan, daughter of the late Gordon Ezben and Loretta Shankle McNutt. She had undergone a laryngectomy in January of 2002 and was the program coordinator in survivors and victims of tobacco empowerment since that year. Terrie was a former smoker whose voice box was removed years ago, she took a leading role in the campaign that showed how smoking-related cancer ravages the body. Terrie wanted to save people from having to go through the sickness and surgeries she endured. Officials believe the "Tips from Former Smokers" campaign led as many as 100,000 Americans smokers to quit.

Terrie was a member of Pinedale Christian Church. She served as secretary for the International Association of Laryngectomy for the past nine years. She also served as president of Western Piedmont Speak Easy Club. She was a recipient of the Surgeon General Medallion for her work in Public Health with the CDC.

Terrie was survived by one daughter, Dana (and her husband, Jimmy) Solano; three grandchildren, Christopher, Jeffery and Alec; two brothers, Steven McNutt and Roger (and his wife, Lisa) Bruchay; her step-father, Bobby Wayne Sink; and a host of other family and friends who mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon Ezben and Loretta McNutt; and one daughter, Sara Ashley Hall.

Visitations were held from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21st, 2013 at the Pinedale Christian Church in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 21st, 2013 at the Pinedale Christian Church with Pastor Bill McKenzie officiating.

The family has chosen cremation as final disposition with the Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home and Crematory in Winston-Salem, North Carolina in charge of the arrangements.
