CARTHAGE MAN DIES IN COLUMBIA HOSPITAL

CARTHAGE, Mo., July 13—Samuel B. Chappell, 83-year-old retired blacksmith, died at 10:50 o’clock this morning in a Columbia hospital following surgery. He had been in failing health for several months. Born November 19, 1871, in Calhoun county, Michigan, he came to Jasper county at an early age with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Chappell. He operated a blacksmith shop in Avilla for 40 years and in Golden City 22 years before retiring in 1945 and moving to Carthage.
Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Florence Wininger of Carthage and several nephews and nieces. The body was returned to Carthage by the Knell mortuary.
