Arlene Vogt Skornia, 78, of Gerald, Mo., died Sunday, September 15th, at Bethesda Meadows in Ellisville, Mo. Arlene was born in Washington, Mo. on October 14, 1934, a daughter to the late Elven A. and Mabel (Vogt) Tegeler. She was raised on the family farm on Boueff Creek and attended the one room Pin Oak School north of Gerald. She graduated from Owensville High School in 1952, and worked as an office secretary for Dr. Charles A. Schmidt. On November 20, 1955, at St. Paul's UCC in Gerald, Mo., she was united in marriage to Wilbur Skornia, her husband of 56 years She decided to be a stay at home mom, as she carefully and strictly raised her two sons. During this time, she was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Fire Dept. Auxiliary, and hosted Lions Club Foreign Exchange Students. In 1972, she enrolled in the Washington School of Practical Nursing, graduating with honors as a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was the office nurse for Dr. Joseph A. Murney, Dr. John Post, Jr., Dr. Paul C. Baker, and Dr. Donna and Dr. Todd McCluskey. She retired in 1999. Since retirement, she had served as St. Paul's UCC Church Women's Fellowship as Secretary and on their Bereavement Committee. She also served at the Gerald Area Library as volunteer and Board Member and Gerald Community Foundation Board Member. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, John Tegeler and her stepmother Fern Tegeler Johanson. Her survivors include her husband, Wilbur Skornia; two sons, Mark D. Skornia and wife Jane M. of Ballwin, Mo., Paul Skornia and wife Gloria of Wildwood, Mo.; two brothers, Ronald Weiskopf of Washington, Mo., Dr. Kent Tegeler and wife Lesa of Liberty, Mo.; one sister, Sharon Eggers of Chicago, Ill.; one sister-in-law, Mary Ann Tegeler of St. Louis, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Meghan, Anne, Nicholas, Daniel, and Lauren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at St. Paul's UCC in Gerald, Mo. at 2 PM with Rev. Ed Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul's UCC Cemetery in Gerald. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 17, at 4 PM at Gottenstroeter Funeral Home in Gerald. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society and Bethesda Hospice.
