William H. Shaw, born in Massachusetts, was a 21- or 24-year-old bookkeeper when he enrolled on May 15, 1861, in Capt. D. N. Moody's Company, Mississippi Volunteers. He was present at battles at Seven Pines, May 31, 1862, and Savage Station, June 29, 1862. He is listed killed at Malvern Hill, July 1, 1862.
