Gerald William Bates, Sr., 62, a retired machinist at the Ohio Nut and Washer Co., died today at 2 a.m. in St. John Medical Center.He was Methodist by faith.Surviving are three sons, Floyd E. and Gerald Jr. both of Mingo Junction, and James R. of Youngstown; two daughters, Mrs. Marsha Griaga and Mrs. Rose Mary Denard, both of Mingo Junction; four sisters, Mrs. Dora Shreve of Martins Ferry, Mrs. Allie Shreve of Bellaire, Mrs. Vada Riggs of Mingo Junction and Mrs. Lucy McIntire of Wheeling, and 19 grandchildren.He was born July 17, 1915, in Folsom, W.Va., a son of the late Jacob C. and Rosabell Miller Bates.Friends may call at the Blaschalk Funeral Home from 7-9 p.m. Sunday; services there Monday at 10 a.m. New Alexandria Cemetery.
