The funeral of John J. Abbott, 64, of 6 River Street, was held this afternoon at the Lewis Funeral Home with the United Spanish War Veterans in charge and the Rev. Louis van Ess of St. James Episcopal Church officiating. Burial was in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery. Mr. Abbott, the son of John and Melvina (Lane) Abbott, was born at East Worcester, Feb. 3, 1880. He enlisted May 29, 1901, and was honorably discharged after serving two enlistments in the infantry. He served in the Philippine Islands from March 21, 1902, to April 15, 1904, and fought in the Insurrection. On June 14, 1909, he married Miss Rachel Caffer, a native of Lancashire, England, at Cobleskill. A Delaware & Hudson Railroad engineer for 23 years, Mr. Abbott was retired in 1940. Surviving are Mrs. Abbott; three sons, First Class Private Lee Abbott, U. S. A., in England, PFC Clarence Benjamin Abbott, USMC, In the Southwest Pacific, and LaVerne J. Abbott of Oneonta; two daughters, Miss Emma Abbott, Oneonta, and Mrs. Everett Loucks, Franklin, and two uncles, Eugene Lane, Worcester, and Fred Lane, Oneonta
