Florence Catherine De Cosse (nee Kenny), aged 83 years, passed peacefully into God's loving arms on Sept. 16, 2013, in Napa. She, and twin brother Owen, were born on Jan. 11, 1930, in Oakland, Calif., to Thomas and Sara Kenny.
She lived with her family in San Leandro, Calif., until 1940 when they moved to Calistoga to help her grandparents run the Calistoga Hotel. There she attended elementary, freshman and sophomore years of high school. In 1946, the family moved back to San Francisco and she graduated from Polytechnic High School. She married her husband, Herbert De Cosse, in 1960. She went to work for AT&T and retired as a supervisor after 30 years.
In 1980, she and her husband moved to Grass Valley, Calif. She was active in St. Patrick's Parish Young Ladies Institute and the Catholic Ladies Relief Society. She was a passionate bridge player and enjoyed traveling with her husband and friends to Italy, England and Ireland.
Florence was predeceased by her husband, Herbert De Cosse; and brothers, Owen and Thomas.
Florence and Herb had no children.
She is survived by nephews Owen A. Kenny, Jr. of Willits, Calif., and Steven A. Kenny of Sonoma; nieces Leslie (Bob) Estes of Napa, and Lynn (Mark) Griffith of Cottonwood, Calif.; seven great-nieces and four great-nephews.
A viewing will take place Monday at noon at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 235 Chapel St., Grass Valley. A Mass will follow at 1 p.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church; graveside services will be conducted at 2 at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Grass Valley, followed by a reception at St. Patrick's hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a hospice of your choice.
