Brian D. Geurts, 27 years, of Sturgeon Bay, died peacefully in the arms of his mother Mary and father Steven on Tuesday (May 6, 2008) evening at Door County Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 17, 1980 in Wheatland, Wyoming, the son of Steven R. Geurts and Mary Josephine Pickett-Fulwiler. Brian attended Corpus Christi grade school and Sturgeon Bay High School. He had been employed at NEW Industries.

Brian was a very kind and caring and compassionate person who looked out for family and his buddies. He loved the outdoors, playing guitar, listening to music, writing poetry, watching movies, ice fishing, and spending time with his friends and family.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Mary ( Dan) Pickett- Fulwiler of Algoma; father, Steve Geurts (his friend, Penny Sternard and her daughter, Karli) of Sturgeon Bay; daughter, Alyssa Lopez of Kenosha; sister, Colleen (her friend, Shane Clarke) Geurts of Algoma; step-sister, Renee (Dick) Zimmerman, half sister, Danielle Fulwiler both of Algoma; maternal grandparents, John and Catherine Pickett of Sturgeon Bay; paternal grandmother, Shirley Geurts of Escanaba; Step grandmother Kitty Fulwiler of Brussels; special grandparents, Wenzel and Ellie Sternard; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and three godchildren.

Preceding him in death were his paternal grandfather Roman Geurts, two aunts, Kathy Geurts, and Cathy Pickett Burns and step-grandfather Raymond Fulwiler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday (May 12, 2008) at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Fr. Anthony Birdsall officiating.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday (May 11, 2008) at Huehns Funeral Home, and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. A parish wake will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening at Huehns Funeral Home.

A memorial fund will be established in his name for the Door County Memorial Hospital Foundation.

The family wishes to thank the many people who helped with Brian's care compassionately and lovingly; The ER staff at DCMH; Dr Hogan; Bill Hartman, Maria Gerl, Cindy and Leslie from ICU, and the staff of nurses, on med surg- Sue Johnson of Pastoral care, Father Birdsall, And the many other staff who assisted. Thanks to Unity Hospice& Paratran of Door County. We wish to think the awesome nurses at St. Vincent 4th ICU, Sheila, Lori, Kelly, Peggy, Sherry, Cherie & Mary, Paulette , the physicians and Jamie from housekeeping; The compassionate pastoral care staff and all of the staff that assisted in his care. (Thanks to Debbie for the beautiful quilt.) Words cannot adequately describe how thankful we are to all of the staff at both hospitals. Everyone was phenomenal. We also wish to thank County Rescue of Green Bay. To all the friends and family who prayed for Brian and us and for all of the support shown to us, THANK YOU many times over. Special thanks to Father Adam, Father Joel, & Father Andrew for doing masses for Brian, and to (Dr. Dan Koster). Also thanks to Officers Tom Baudhuin and Dan Brinkman.
