Mrs. Long was born Sept. 15, 1926 in Vian, OK to John Wess and Bertha (Watson) Casey. She died on September 20, 2013 in Vian. She married Charles (Choc) Long Sept. 14, 1946 in Muskogee, OK. She worked as R C Williams' secretary and personal bookkeeper for 23 years at the Sallisaw Lime Plant. Later she earned a B.S. degree from Northeastern State University and taught for sixteen years in the Sallisaw Public Schools. She was valedictorian of the Sallisaw High School 1944 graduating class. Mrs. Long enjoyed cooking, playing the piano and singing. She created scrapbooks about her family and their genealogy and also compiled information about local, state, and national historical events. She belonged to several book clubs. Her thirst for knowledge was never ending. She was a member of the Sequoyah County Historical Society, 1972-73 president of Sequoyah County Women's Auxiliary of the American Legion, member of Retired OK State Teachers association and served on the Sequoyah County equalization and excise board. She was very interested in local and national politics. She was very patriotic and proud to be an American! She was a good mother who loved her son, family and friends very much. She loved the Lord and enjoyed quoting Biblical scriptures. She was of the Baptist faith, and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include: one son, Joe Wes Long of the home; two sisters, Joyce Moore and husband Bill of Asheville NC; Bonnie Gooch and husband Ronald of Perryton, TX; two brothers-in-laws, Tom Long of Sallisaw, Carl Long and wife Doris of Sallisaw; three sisters-in-laws, Barbara Casey of Muskogee; Angela Casey of Fort Smith, AR; Bonnie Hacker of Skiatook; several nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her sister Bivra Mock and three brothers, John (Peach), Donald, and Mike Casey.
